Why a positive mental attitude is necessary to ensure success
Why a positive mental attitude is necessary to ensure success

Do you think that you can fly to the moon if you wanted to? What about running the 100m in less than 10 seconds? How about being earning £1 million a year?
Have you answered no to one or all of the above? Does that mean that no one has gone to the moon, run 100m in less than 10 seconds and there are no millionaires? So, what makes them different from you? Are they not made of flesh and bone like you?
How did they achieve these amazing goals? For one they had a goal in mind and they worked very hard to achieve each milestone, but, more importantly they had self-belief. having goals, objectives and targets are only good if the person believes that they can achieve them. Someone with targets that do not believe in their own capabilities or brilliance, will often fail.
Do you hear people say more about what they have achieved or what they have not? Positive people will talk about what they have got and what they have achieved, rather than not. The phrase glass half full comes to mind?
Do you feel more energetic and enthusiastic when you have achieved something or know that the success is just around the corner? People that are positive will generally have more enthusiasm and energy and can go the extra mile.
“But simon, there are so many things that have gone wrong”. I hear this lot and I reply, “so has everything gone wrong this day, week, month?” Of course not, but, people dwell on failures and things that have gone wrong. I invite you to think back and identify at least three things that have gone well at the end of each day, for the next 7 days. Taking this approach will help you realise that you have achieved more than you allow yourself to take credit for. This will in turn make you feel more positive about achieving tomorrow’s goals.
Surround yourself with people that have “can do” attitudes rather than those that blame everything and everyone else before they look at themselves and realise that they have not made the effort.
When trying to achieve difficult objectives, speak only with people that you admire, respect and have successfully achieved similar objectives. This way you can learn from their experience and feel the positive energy that they felt upon their success.
What response would you get by asking people that are reactive, who blame others and do not have a “can do” attitude? I am sure you know that their response would be “you can’t do that because of a, b, c etc etc”.
By identifying your daily successes, surrounding yourself with people that have achieved their objectives and believing in your own capability will help you be more positive and energised to achieve even the most wildest goals.
In moments of doubt take a few deep breaths, close your eyes, try to relax and think back to your past successes, think of those people that you admire and think how they would achieve these objectives. Finally, remember that someone has run the 100m in less than 10 seconds and there are millionaires. So, what reasons are you going to find in achieving your goals rather than the excuses of not achieving them?
